Gary Brain has a Bachelor of Music degree and an Honorary PhD. in psychology.

In January 1984, Gary Brain was honoured by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the 2nd with an OBE for his “Services to music”.

Gary Brain has constantly refused positions as music director, which have been offered to him. He prefers to be free to conduct the music he likes, when and where he likes.
